United Food Operation has received a $10,000 grant from the Bernard McDonough Foundation to help provide food to local pantries serving families throughout Kanawha and Putnam counties.

The funding will be used to purchase food for United Food Operation’s network of 12 independent community food pantries. These pantries assist seniors, working families, individuals with disabilities and other residents experiencing food insecurity.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Bernard McDonough Foundation for investing in the food pantries that serve our communities,” said Matt Harris of United Food Operation. “This $10,000 grant will help us purchase more food, support our partner pantries and reach more local households during a time when the need for food assistance remains high.”

Founded in 1982, United Food Operation is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization that strengthens local food pantries by purchasing and distributing shelf-stable food and other essential items. Rather than operating a direct-service pantry, the organization works behind the scenes to help established community pantries keep their shelves stocked.

During its annual winter campaign, United Food Operation coordinates the purchase and weekly distribution of food to participating pantries throughout Kanawha and Putnam counties. The organization relies on grants, community contributions, donated warehouse space and volunteers to carry out its mission.
